| Services | The ultimate goal of special and deaf education is to educate and
provide the least estrictive environment for deaf and
hard of hearing students in mainstream classrooms in their home districts
and on their home campuses. Due to the scarcity of certified deaf education
teachers and sign language interpreters in surrounding school districts,
many students are transported to Nacogdoches ISD to receive these services
from the Nacogdoches Regional Day School Program. We serve students from 23 surrounding school districts in a shared services arrangement. Many students remain in mainstream classes with the related service of sign language interpreter accompanying them.. Some students remain in their home district and receive deaf education services from an itinerant teacher who comes to their campus to provide services. Some students receive language art and/or math in deaf education classrooms and are mainstreamed for the remainder of the day. Our goal is to provide every student in our program with a quality education and to help them transition into colleges, universities, trade school, or the workforce so that they will become productive and successful members of the community. |
| Eligibility | Any student who has a hearing impairment which severely impairs processing linguistic information through hearing, even with recommended amplification, and which adversely affects educational performance shall be eligible for consideration for the Nacogdoches Regional Day School Program for the deaf, subject to the admission, review and dismissal ("ARD") committee recommendations. We serve students from 23 surrounding school districts in a shared services arrangement. |
