| Services | The Association was formed to give better education to people
who are interested in becoming midwives. An education program, accepted
by the state, for midwifery training is currently available. The Association
now supplies the only alternative in this area to hospitalization for delivery.
Continuing education is offered through scheduled meetings. Services provided include prenatal care, in-home delivery service, and postpartum care. Appropriate referrals are made as needed. Service is usually less than one year. |
| Eligibility | Any healthy pregnant woman, 17 and over, is eligible to utilize the services of the member midwives. The Association’s members serve the surrounding East Texas area. The Association often accepts referrals from chiropractors, women who have had home deliveries, and self-referrals. A woman may phone and come in to fill out a follow-up health screening questionnaire. If accepted, a screening follows, including a blood pressure test, abdominal palpitation and urinalysis. She is then referred to an appropriate midwife. |
